Signs of Pregnancy Discrimination

It is all too common for employers to consider a pregnant employee to be an inconvenience. Sadly, pregnant women and mothers report more discrimination in the workplace now than they did a decade ago*. However, there is now more conversation and awareness around pregnancy rights and the warning signs of pregnancy and/or maternity leave discrimination. These can include:

  • a sudden increase in criticism or negative feedback
  • changes to workload and responsibilities without reason
  • being invited to less meetings and/or receiving less emails
  • a decrease in growth and development opportunities (seminars, projects, training etc.)
  • not receiving a raise or promotion you were in line to get before becoming pregnant
  • exclusion from social and networking events
  • being demoted or fired without cause
