Sam Swinstead, HR Manager

Sam Swinstead

HR Manager

Sam graduated from Surrey University with a Masters in Business Psychology in 1995 and her first job was to run a work rehabilitation programme for adults with long term mental ill health. This sparked a passion for helping businesses get it right when it comes to employing people.

After 4 years in the not for profit sector Sam joined a small software house as the HR & Training Manager and this was followed by a move to Nokia Networks where the job involved projects such as recruiting over 120 engineers in a period of just 3 months and overhauling the entire Induction Programme.

Sam has been a freelance HR consultant since 2003, working with businesses that don’t have an in-house HR resource and want help to stay legally compliant and follow best employment practice.  With the ability to find innovative solutions to unusual HR challenges, and the tenacity to see difficult dispute situations through to a satisfactory conclusion, Sam’s clients value the support of having her on their side!  Sam says “I love working with business owners who want to get it right.  I get great satisfaction when they want me to help develop the very best HR systems for their particular business needs. I also love dealing with a tricky issue that has been causing difficulty so that we can resolve it and they can get on with running the business”

Sam lives and works in Hampshire, and has done so since returning from a brief stint living in the States where she married her lovely husband in full Las Vegas, Little White Chapel style, which Sam says was great!  They have one son Jake who is very cool and makes Sam laugh every day.  He is planning on being a 3 Michelin Star Chef so hopefully he can keep them in a style they’d like to be accustomed to when they are retired!   Sam is surrounded by an old fashioned extended family who fill her with joy & drive her insane in equal parts.  She has a chocolate labrador & an utterly bonkers labradoodle puppy who keep her active & ensure her car always looks like a mud bath.
