Sex & Pregnancy Discrimination

Karen acted for a woman who was undergoing IVF and who had to take frequent time off work for medical appointments. She was denied any promotion opportunities from the time her employer was aware she was trying for a child and her male colleague was promoted in preference to her. She wanted to leave the organisation which was clearly not going to support her as a new mother and wanted to avoid litigation to secure a swift conclusion to matters. We engaged with the company persuading them of the adverse legal, financial and reputational impact of defending Employment Tribunal litigation in the public domain and secured a significant financial package for her that would allow her time off to recover her health (by this time her mental health was not good) and to give her time to find a new position in a more supportive organisation.
