Increases in the National Minimum Wage with effect from 1 April 2025

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate increases from 1 April 2025.

The new rates are as follows:

21 and over18 to 20Under 18Apprentices

You must be at least school leaving age to get the NMW and aged 21 to get the National Living Wage. The NMW still applies to workers aged 20 and under. 

Apprentices must be either aged 19 or under or over age 19 and in the first year of their apprenticeship.

Employers will be wise to update payroll systems as soon as possible and identify which workers are due the new rates, remembering that some workers will move from one category to another.
