Live-in domestic workers entitled to minimum wage

From 1 April 2024 employees carrying out domestic work while living on site will now be entitled to the minimum wage.

The legislation previously exempted from the minimum wage requirements live-in domestic workers who were not family members. Positive news for live-in employees!

The rates for the minimum wage and the living wage have been announced and are effective from 1 April 2024. Here they are: 

  • £11.44 per hour is the new rate for the Living Wage for anyone aged 21 and over
  • It’s £8.60 per hour for ages  18 to 20
  • And for ages 16-17 the rate is £6.40 per hour
  • The rate for apprentices is also £6.40 per hour
  • The rate for Accommodation offset goes up to £9.99 per day
